An AI tool can reduce from 15 days to 2 minutes the judicial processing of “second-chance” cases
In the article, Mireia Artigot, professor of civil law at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), explains how a new AI assistant — developed together with the judiciary and judicial-administration bodies — can drastically shorten the processing time for insolvency cases under the “second-chance” law. Tasks that typically take around 15 days can be completed in as little as 2 minutes: the AI orders and classifies documents, summarises case files, detects missing information and even drafts a resolution — all to be reviewed by a human. The tool could be rolled out in some Catalan commercial courts as early as 2026.
