Privacy policy

General information

This website is part of the research project “Justice, fundamental rights, and Artificial Intelligence” (JULIA), project funded by the DG Justice of the European Commission (Grant 101046631).

Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (“General Data Protection Regulation” or “GDPR”) applies to any processing of personal data conducted by the project.

Universitat Pompeu Fabra (“UPF” or “us”), JULIA project coordinator, is the ‘Data Controller’ for any personal data processing carried on by the project:

Website management

PurposeThe management and dissemination of the activities and the outcome of JuLIa project.
Website performance and security monitoring.
Legal basisPublic interest.
Storage periodActivity data logs may be preserved throughout the life of the project.
Project’s data may be retained while the website is active.
RecipientsUPF and IT services providers contracted for compliance with legal requirements of data protection.
Project’s data – not subjects’ data - may be publicly accessible through the Internet.

Mailing lists

PurposeDissemination of JULIA project activities and their outcome.
Legal basisConsent of the data subject. It may be withdrawn at any time.
Storage periodMailing lists data may be kept up to two years after the end of the JULIA project.
RecipientsUPF and distribution list service providers in compliance with data protection regulations.
Access to mailing list data may be granted to the rest of JULIA project partners.

Project activities and dissemination

PurposeDissemination of JULIA project activities and outcome.
Legal basisConsent of the data subject. It may be withdrawn at any time.
Storage periodPersonal data may be kept up until two years after the end of the JULIA project.
An anonymized version of the data may be created to be used for research purposes.
RecipientsUPF and other JULIA project partners in charge of specific activities.
Access to mailing list data may be granted to the rest of JULIA project partners.

Further information

Automated decisions

We will not make individual decisions based solely on automated processing as qualified by article 22 of the GDPR, with legal implications for the data subject or that may affect the data subject in a similar manner.

International transfers

We do not carry out international transfers of data. However, many IT providers have their servers outside the European Union and the European Economic Area (EEA). Therefore, it is possible that some of our providers may be located outside the EEA. In this case, and only when strictly necessary to operate on the Platform, we will carry out international transfers.

In any case, we have already entered into the contracts or will enter into the required legal commitments to ensure that these providers offer adequate guarantees equivalent to those provided by EU law.


We are aware of the importance of privacy and data protection regulations. Accordingly, the protection of the security, integrity and confidentiality of our users’ information is very important for us. Therefore, it is our firm intention to act in a responsible way in this regard.


UPF reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy in accordance with the provisions of the Terms of Use.
